Locks have been in use by everyone for some time now. You don’t really see the importance of them until you are the victim in a threatening situation. These locks are extremely sturdy and durable for the force they absorb when someone tries to break through them. As we have become blind to their excellence, there are facts about these locks installed from a fellow locksmith in which you might have never heard.

As locks have advanced throughout the years, the discovery of the first lock could go far back as thousands of years ago. It was founded in Egypt during 2,000 B.C. The first lock would be a wooden deadbolt created by them. They’d believe this wooden deadbolt would be placed on doors.
You may think locks are complicated, but they’re not. These mechanisms only consist of around 3 components. These components are the body itself, the locking mechanism, and the shackle. The locking mechanism itself is the main way the lock works as it allows the lock to open and close. The shackle is the U-shaped part of the lock and the body is the square-shaped part.
As some people are afraid of their locks getting busted through easily, that isn’t the case. These locks are designed in a way where it can resist being picked open. There are usually 10 security pins inside the padlock which the burglar would struggle to pick.
During the times of ancient Egypt, owning locks would be seen as a wealthy move. A normal citizen wouldn’t be able to purchase these locks. Usually the upper-class and royalties could afford them.
With technology advancing, you’d be surprised to hear that some locks are wireless. The way this works is a bluetooth device gets placed in the lock that can be unlocked by its wireless counterpart. This can be a tablet, phone, or a wireless tag.
Before locks were a thing, the people came up with a method. Rope knots. The way this works is by making a sailors knot and wrapping it around valuables and doors.
A key-changeable lock was created by James Sargent, and it was the first ever. This was done in 1857 and this influenced the safe lock industry. Years later, James perfected this method with an updated version and this enhanced the bank vault system.
The first U.S. locksmith would be Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company. They launched in 1868 and happened to be the first ever American locksmith.
A combination lock guarded the U.S. Treasury Department before and had a manipulation-proof lock mechanism. It had multiple combinations of numbers and letters, and featured 5 tumblers. Experts believed it would take someone possibly 2,000 years to solve the code. This was during the year 1862, and the lock had 1,073,741,824 solutions.
Even though it isn’t verified by Guinness World Records, the largest known lock collection is about 25,000 locks. Robert Bob Dix is the person behind this record as he collects locks and mastered an antique lock restoration technique.
